This is a small stiff plastic canvas for beginners to learn how to needlepoint. The needle is plastic and large for younger children. I bought for my 90 year old mom's 1st project.Good for beginners but may need some adult help to get startedI like this brand of starter needlepoint much better than Sew Cute brand for these reasons: Alex uses double thread so a child doesn't have to cope with trying to keep the yarn in the needle as he sews; the needle is made out of plastic so it is safe and even a little bendable if needed; the plastic board has a good feel, not so rigid as Sew Cute and more open holes. The kit has enough yarn if you skip the outermost row around the perimeter. This is covered by the frame when completed. I bought this for my 6-year old grandson because he had shown an interest in the needlepoint I was working on. He loved it and so did I; we sat together all cozy and talked about our lives while he did the stitching and I supervised. He said he liked it as much as playing games on my iPad so that's a big plus.My 7.5 year old got this for Christmas. She knows how to knit a scarf and can do several regular sewing stitches and sews regularly. Seeing the 5+ age rating, I figured this would be a quick and fun project for her. It is not. It's hard, it requires a lot of help from me (threading the needle as the yarn is thick), and requires careful use of the yarn or you will run out of colors. It's slow going and requires a lot of thought and problem solving. I've ended up doing most of it (as an adult, I find it fun. As a 7.5 year old, it's too hard). I recommend for probably ages 9+.I purchased these learn simple needlepoint kits for my 5 year old grandson who watches me do mine. He's been so busy selecting projects for me to stitch for him that I decided to get him some to do by himself. I figured if he sees how much time a small project can take he won't be so quick to ask me to whip something up for him every week. The current project he selected for me is a Bucilla needlepoint Christmas stocking. I plan on starting that in the next week. I don't believe I will be able to complete it in time for this Christmas but at least he'll have it for next Christmas when he will be able to appreciate it more.My daughter (8) asked for a needlepointing project after watching me work on mine and after some googling, I stumbled on this series and gave it a try. I had to walk her through threading the needle (including tricks on keeping all the loose fibers together) and stick with her for a little while as she got used to the stitch patterns but she has now completed three of these and we are starting a more complex project soon. This is a hard plastic canvas with a big plastic needle (not sharp) and some acrylic yarn that is pre-cut. It also comes with a frame of sorts that has an indent in the top so it could easily be hung on a nail.Great and easy productThis needlepoint kit was great! My husband and boys went on a fathers and sons campout. My 6 year old daughter was very excited to have some girl time. We selected this kit and it arrived right away. She had a few days of peeking at it here and there with growing anticipation. When our night arrived she loved it! At first I was careful to show her how to do it just right. Then she enjoyed just working it on her own. The end result doesn't look exactly like the picture, but it is still lovely. She worked most of it that night and finished the rest the next morning. This kit was of superior quality. I have purchased similar kits in the past. The plastic grid was sturdy and the paint did not flake at all. There was plenty of yarn for each color. The design was simple and pleasing. Once complete, the design clicked nicely into place inside the frame.I give my highest recommendation for this product. Way to go, Alex toys!I bought this for my daughter for Christmas--she is 7.She has a rough time figuring out how to sew and does not really have the patience for this product yet.Overall the product is a good one--its just for my daughter, she was not ready for something like this yet.A MI NIÑA LE HA ENCANTADO SE PASA HORAS INTENTANDO APRENDER A COSER JAJAJAJJA ES UN REGALO MUY ENTRETENIDO PARA ELLA MUCHAS GRACIAS
