If you're reading this review you're probably here out of a fascination with LEGO yourself or you have children that you're shopping for. To get the obvious stuff out of the way, yes, these LEGO baseplates are expensive and yes, these baseplates are compatible with most LEGO sets outside of the kiddo oriented Duplo collection. My two boys are huge LEGO City fans and we're slowly building out our LEGO village which now includes several trains, buildings, and a ton of vehicles. These baseplates are, in my opinion, an absolute must if you're planning on having more than just a smattering of different LEGO stuff. These road oriented baseplates really tie the whole City collection together allowing you to create a true City environment. Each plate features the standard pegs that can be used to anchor buildings, track, and other features together building a seamless City experience. I'll also mention that if you collect LEGO aircraft these plates would also pull double duty as airport runway! So, why are essentially two large pieces of plastic so expensive? I really can't say other than the fact that almost all LEGO stuff is expensive. I will, however, say that every building toy and set we've purchased from LEGO is absolute top-quality. These baseplates are no exception and everything from our Do get me wrong they look great and keep my sons imaginations going but one major flaw. Like every baseplate made by LEGO, they cannot be joined or connected in anyway, unless you put legos to halfA hold them together. For the life of me I cannot fathom why they've always made them this way! It's such a poor design, every time they get a new build they try to play with the vehicles on the road and the plates go flying everywhere. Another thing that bugs me is there so dang flimsy not just this one but the plain ones too that every time I try to lift the projects (buildings) pop right off with the slightest movements. I cannot express to you how many times a building has popped off right onto the floor because of this. Causing a screaming/crying 3 year old, a upset 7 year old and a p.o-ed mom who has to console everyone all while trying to figure out for the next 45 minutes how to put the pieces of a building all back together.Lego not that you read Amazon reviews but for us parents:1. MAKE STANDARD JOINING BASEPLATES2.THICKER BASEPLATESAlso, please don't charge a fortune if you do happen to make these alterations, your cheap plastic already cost a fortune as it is (except on Amazon)! Now that I have several City and Creator kits I had to start looking for a better way to display them... Combine them... make it easier for the kids to play with them... make it more fun in making your own city. I didn't know what I was looking to do with all of the kits. I found the road plates by accident. I read some less then happy reviews in general, and no one seems to like the crossroad at all. I have to admit, when I received the plates I was not too sure how they worked. I even thought I bought the wrong thing. After watching a tutorial, it all made sense. Now that I have combined at least 10 buildings with the road plates, the kids play with it far more now then ever before. And by adding lights from Brick Loot, it looks great on display. This is perfectly fine as a Lego baseplate, but the official Lego baseplates bug me because they do not fit together flush. Anything up to 16x16 is the standard Lego plate thickness (1/3 the height of a standard brick), are rigid, and fit flush with each other when attached. Their baseplates, 16x32 and above, are flexible, have rounded corners, and have a small gap when connected together. With solid color baseplates this is not very apparent since you can cover the gaps with standard plates, but this is not possible with the road sections.I am aware that this is nitpicky and that kids really are not going to care, but there are aftermarket makers of plates that make them full thickness, that are seamless when put together, and that are cheaper. 99% of the time I am a Lego purist and believe that Lego makes the best product of its type, but for baseplates they are letting themselves be outclassed by their competitors. What you get: 2 baseplates. One straight and one intersection. What you don't get: Enough time to play with everything when it is all put together.Building our own 2 x 5 baseplate city using the #1 construction toy in the world. These are authentic branded base plates.Disclosure: I paid full asking price for this item. Compré varios legos al mismo tiempo en Amazon con un muy buen descuento y quedé muy satisfecho.El servicio de entrega de Amazon, excelente. Not much to these 2 x plates. We have a LOT of lego and my boys can't use it in any way their imagination wants due to limited attachment space. Waste of plastic.
