I just installed this today, and took our first car ride with it. It's awesome! My four year old daughter loves the independence she has to choose where her things go inside, and what she plays with at any given time. It has enough room for markers & paper (I got her the ColorWonder so I don't have to worry about my car), her Leapster and cartridges, toys, extra batteries, juice box, etc. It's not as deep as I expected, and I was surprised that it didn't reach over her lap. We have a Caravan, and I moved the passenger seat in front of her all the way back, and her seat all the way up. It sort of rests on her knees. But she says it's fine for reaching, and doesn't have trouble coloring on it. And she can easily open & close it herself. The only drawback I can think of is that the fastener (velcro straps) isn't very flexible in terms of fitting on a variety of seat types. It worked OK for the Caravan, but required some creative wrapping/twisting to get the length right. One thing I'm not sure of is whether things will fall off it, since the tray doesn't have sides. We have the Star tray also, and it's awesome because it has sides. But it's not a desk-organizer like the Valet.I suppose since the Valet is so skinny when put up, it won't get in the way of the Star tray if I need her to eat in the car.We use these for our now eight and 10-year-olds. We started when they were three and five and aside from them looking a little bit stained and beat they still work awesomely. We do between four and six 800-1400mile(each way) drives a year with them and they are life savers.I print out coloring pictures by the dozen online and stock them for every trip. Twistables and mini markers work the best along with colored pencils. I've not had trouble with melting crayons but we usually clean up the mess when we arrive so they don't stay more than a day in the car.The desks are also soft, so in a crash, they would crumple before they did any damage. However, we find them to be very sturdy and the kids are able to use them as tray tables in addition to art tables. We have a suburban and we used to use them in the 3rd row only because otherwise they weren't compatible with the height of the car seats. Now we can use them in either but the kids still like being in the 3rd row.And if the straps need "shortening" we found that wrapping the straps a few times around the headrest posts before velcroing is a quick fix to make them shorter. We keep ours filled and ready to go, just hang them in the closet until we need them. Time saver!!!I would not pay the regular list price for this since it came empty but since it was a black friday special, I think it was a decent purchase. A couple of things to note for us, we drive a Scion XB 2008, not sure if car model has any difference in how the product installs. My son is in a Britax seat. If my hubby drives, he can use this product because he is taller than me so the seat is pushed back a lot further. When I drive, I don't think my son can use this since I'm shorter so sit further up. He's only 4 so I think his arms wouldn't be long enough. Maybe because he's still in a 5 point harness as well, again reach. The portion that goes on his lap is kind of flimsy. I would have been happier with the product if it came with paper/colors that fit the compartments perfectly. While you can easily find anything to go into the compartments, I had to go hunt down all the supplies to put into it for the road trip. Also, installtion of the thing is weird. It doesn't seem like there is any way for you to put it in your car w/o have to modify the straps. Rather than add a piece of rope like other parents to make it sit at the right level, I just tied it around itself. See picture. We only install this during road trips. I think if it were in the car everyday it wouldn't last with people getting in and out and banged up a lot more.We gave the ALEX Toys Artist Studio Car Valets to our three youngest grandchildren who seem to constantly being chauffeured back and forth to school, sports events, vacation trips, birthday parties, etc. They are always looking for something to do when caught in traffic jams or on long trips so the car valet offered the opportunity to stock up a bunch of activities all that can be contained in one place to be used when needed. We stocked each of their valets with crayons, markers and colored paper. They have added stickers, scissors, books, lots of Shopkins and whatever beverage and snack mom or dad has provided that day. Sometimes the tray of the valet is used for reading books or starting/finishing homework. The tray is strong enough to host these activities without bending.Installing the valets in the family SUV was no problem. They needed a little adjustment to fit just right, but then what doesn't need a little twitch here and there? These girls get a choice of where they want to sit and the valets are moved throughout the SUV accordingly without any problem. When they are ready to stop their activities everything is zipped shut and the special nametags I made for each child faces outward identifying whose valet is whose. This is THE VERY BEST backseat attaching car organizer/table I have ever found!! I bought 2 for my kids 3 years ago. It lasted, through spilled drinks, messy snacks and general hard wear and tear that kids pur things though for over 2 years! Then my kids wanted less kid-looking tables. So we bought a different brand, they lasted less then a month. We have now been through 3 other styles in the last 6 months and I am repurchasing these same ones! Even my kids are asking me the "get the good ones again"'My kids have a 20 min. drive to and from school each day, so we use that car time to do our homework everyday. These get used hard everyday, and they still hold up!!!The vinal covering does soak up marker ink, and it doesn't wipe off. But other than that, I love this brand of car tables. They hold up so well and holds a significant amount of weight: books, laptops, etc. The table part is very sturdy and well constructed!!Very cute, good deal when on sale. However be advised it does not come with any supplies. The last picture was a bit misleading. Perhaps for people like me expecting something more for an item with a $63 regular price it should be specified that the accessories and supplies pictured are NOT included. We bought for our 5 year old niece, and she loved it, we packed with crayons, tiny tiny LEGO blocks, paper, and more stuff from the dollars storeNow they want one for my nephewI love the idea behind this. But it just doesn't reach in either of our vehicles.too expensive for little cardboard item wrapped in vinyl. very flimsyThis is fun for the kids keeps them busy, just wish it was longer to reach them better
