For children 8 and older is the recommendation, and I would stick with that without supervision and expect to have to help with specific tasks anyhow. The bead making, for example, requires ironing, and I am not envisioning a child of 8 with an iron any time soon. That said, this kit was a lot of fun and gave my daughter, my wife, and myself something to play with together. It had some random objects in it, ranging from hair pens, beads, patches, nail stickers, necklaces, bracelets, and more, but all of these came together and were fun to delve into. There is an excellent product picture that details all of the items in the box, and that should tell you whether or not this would interest your child. It is random and it does stick to application themes, so children and adults alike that like to craft/help craft together and younger kids would be my expected audience. Two of my younger daughters absolutely love ALEX craft kits and this one was no exception. With that being said they are under the age of 8 so this was more of a mother/daughters bonding activity than an independent craft. Even at the 8 year mark there are things I feel they would need help with. On the other hand, I feel that those old enough to do this on their own wouldn't really be interested by the crafts. Overall I would definitely recommend this to a mom (grandma/aunt) who wants to spend some quality time with their little girl/girls. Quality craft materials and easy instructions make it a great rainy day activity.I got these for my daughters and they have had fun with them. They are engaging little projects, not for the super young but also not for teens. The 8-12 range is probably right. They 'get' some of the uses better. Applying crafty stuff on the places that make sense.I love these Alex craft boxes - so great for rainy days and just 'hanging out' days. Sleepover project boxes....really good.I don’t know if I would call this a “Geek Kit” these items just seem like fun random stuff that kids will like. It comes with:Nail kitHair chalkMake your own hair accessoriesGlassesIron On Patches & beadsStickersHair pinsCharmsBead making equipmentEarring MakersIron CraftsThe kidlet had fun putting stuff together. It was your typical DIY kit for kids. It requires more supervision on some tasks - like the ironing beads - than others. But, it was fun to play with. Overall, it was a good kit and came with a lot of things that will keep your child busy.My older loved the other Alex craft sets we had. And loves accessorizing. So thought this would be great for her. It's a little advanced for her, but doing one of them for/with her made for a fun evening activity. Think we'll do one a night. Like other Alex sets it's great that basically everything you need is in the box. Sure some of this stuff you might have around the house. Or could gather. But it really is so nice to have it all together for you. This is a fun set for the girl who is crafty and likes to dress up &/or accessorize. It has hair chalk, glasses and nail polish as well as the jewelry you assemble your self. My 10 year old and put the jewelry together on a rainy afternoon and had a blast. It is inexpensive and fun. I am thinking of getting the Bohemian set too.Fun kit for girls to give them a fun geek chic look. Fun accessories to give a head to toe fashion makeover. Fun for girls to dress up and change their style. This was enjoyed by my daughter. The components do not have a central theme other than "geek," which means some creative effort is needed to pull something together, so it's a great gift to engage a child's creativity. You can augment with other items using this as a base and it got our arts and crafts juices flowing.
