This is a GREAT family set. I was in desperate search for a doll family for my 2 year old's dollhouse that were easy for her to pose and stand up, but weren't horrendously ugly. That's a fairly tall order, until we found these. I also have the Melissa and Doug Victorian family, and though I prefer those dolls in style, they are more "barbie-like" - bendable plastic. They don't pose easily and they have tiny little feet and though they CAN stand up, it's not something that's easy to do consistently, and it's impossible for my daughter. These are fantastic. They are far cuter in person than the pictures. I love that they're wood and all non-toxic. They all have over-sized feet that make them super easy to stand, and they bend and pose easily. We use them in a 1:12 scale dollhouse with Le Toy Van furniture and it's easy to bend their legs at the knees to have them sit in chairs. All their limbs are rope-covered wire. My husband thinks the Dad looks like a dork (he does), but that's our only complaint. One note - all the dolls have a block for a torso with the rope limbs extending from it... so you can't really pull the pants or skirts down lower than mid-waist because they'll fall off. It's not a big deal at all, but it's not obvious from the picture why all the pants/skirts are pulled up so high!If I was designing my perfect doll family, I wish there was an option for a same-gender siblings (we have two daughters and wanted a doll family to mimic her real family), but I know that Plan Toys sells individual boys and girls, so that's a nice option.
