We purchased this for Christmas for my then-15 month old daughter. She didn't really understand it at first and mostly played with the fish. She is almost 18 months now and loves this toy, and is able to use the fishing rod to catch fish. She likes that if you hold the fish under water at the right angle bubbles come out of its mouth (at the other angle they emerge from the back of the fish, which is also funny). We have had no problems with any mold or odor issues, which I was concerned about when I first saw how the fish take on water. The magnet is securely attached and I think a toddler would have a very hard time swallowing it (and would never be able to do it with a parent supervising). The length of the "fishing line" is safe even for babies.Addendum 11/2017Sometime in the last six months some of the fish developed mold. It comes off the outside with a bleach wash, but I’m now a little worried over the insides. My kid is now three years old and thinks it’s hilarious to kiss the fish and drink from their mouths, so I’ve had to take them out of the bath.I bought this for my 10 month old son to play with in the tub, in his water table and in the house. The magnet works great! Its really strong. The fish seem weighted and float upright like they should. And water comes out of them easily and they dry inside very fast. With the strong magnet and large fish and worm, it was easy for my son to use once he realize what the worm did. The colors are bright and fish are big and easy for tiny hands to grab. The plastic is very smooth and very thick/durable. I dont see these being broken, ever! The fishing pole is great. Its small enough for young ones to be able to easily manuever the worm to fish. The reel is easy to turn but not too easy that it wont hold under the weight of the fish. The string is what i was worried about but after seeing it in person, i felt much better about it not breaking. Its really strong semi thick string and seems very well attached to the pole. Im not worried about it being pulled out. Also, the string, once reeled all the way out, is just the right lengh. I would recommend this above all others and i would purchase this again. Im very pleased and see nothing at all bad about this product. My granddaughters love these, play with em every time in the tub.. They are in good quality as well.Very cute and colorful. The fish are large and different. The magnets are strong and hold fast. Very well made with no sharp edges. They came well packaged and prompt. You can not go wrong with Tolo toy. Very, very well made and durable. This is a fun bath toy that our son enjoys. He figured it out right away. Two problems -1) we have an old enamel-coated, cast iron bathtub and the magnetic lips of the fish and the magnetic worm stick to the side of the tub. Its easy to pull them off but kind of funny to see the fish all lined up on the side of the tub. This would be a non-issue if we used the fishing rod only in the inflatable kiddie pool. 2) as with any water toy that can get water inside is the issue with slime mold forming inside the toy if all the water isn't drained. The fish do drain pretty well, but you will need to sterilize these fish every once in awhile. This set is awesome! A friend of mine had this for her son when we visited. At the time he was 18 months and my daughter was 11months old. He was really good at hooking the fish and my lil girl attempted so I thought it would be great for Christmas. Now, 17 months old, we just gave it to her and she knows how to use it well after just a few tries. The fishing pole and fish are great quality and the magnets are pretty strong. She has used them in the tub too which is fun. I will add that your little one may get a little frustrated in the tub at times since the magnet on the fishing pole will get stuck to the bathtub at times. Great toy, would totally buy again!the reeling part only reels one way. since this is a toy for a little kid, you would think they would have made the easy modification of reeling up and down in either direction. so he reeles in the wrong direction long enough this thing breaks. Wish I would have got the set for this price that came with more, a tackle box and vest plus pole and fish. This was overpriced for what I got. The fish are really sturdy, but they hold water in small areas inside, so the water wont just leak out, after a bath they stay wet for days, with potential for mold and mildew and bacteria. Also the string on the reel and rod was so super short. mediocre magnet. fish look great and i dont see any wear or tear on them, no eyes scratching off or losing color or any of that. This toy should be 10-15 dollars new. not whatever it costs nowMy child loves this toy - she likes to pile all the fish into a Tolo shape sorter and fish them out one by one (her version of fishing in a barrel I suppose). I'm impressed by how strong the magnet is on the fishing pole - it allows the fish to stick on so they don't fall off while being reeled up. That's the part she seems to enjoy the most. She does get a bit frustrated when the fish don't "kiss" if she brings them together but we're using this to try and introduce the concept of magnetic poles. The toy is well made with the nice bright colors and sturdy pieces I've come to expect from Tolo toys. Since this is meant to be a tub toy, my only concern is if the string on the fishing pole will weaken and break through repeated wettings. I guess only time will tell and if so I'll post an update in a few months.I bought this as a gift for a 2 year old. The fish are large and chunky enough for little hands to grasp easily and the magnet between the worm and fishes mouth is really strong so you don't need to be accurate to be able to catch a fish. I didn't see it used in water but I imagine it would be fine and the bright colours would make the fish easy to find under the bubbles! The small winder was a bit tricky for the 2 year old but he did manage it, but you don't need to use it to have fun. Sometimes I find that eyes and patterns can be painted poorly but these fish were lovely quality and all had absolutely perfect faces! For the money you pay - you will not be dissappointed.Saw this at the Nursery so bought it for bath times.Magnet very strong and manages to stay connected whilst pulling the very cute, again well made fish out the water. You can then reel the fish in - very life like. Well manufactured, sturdy and will last a lifetime.Recommend you buy!Absolutely wonderful - this has transformed bathtime with my little girl! Previously a bath hater, she will now (almost) eagerly get into the bath, to play with this. Sturdy, cute toy. Need to ensure you wind the string out after bathtime, to allow it to dry as much as possible.Super strong magnet in the worm! I'm glad I spent a little extra to get this one, as reviews for all other brands have all stated the magnet is too weak to pick up the fish!My son absolutely loves this tolo fishing toy. This a fantastic little bath toy. After my 2 year old kept using the plug as an impromptu fishing rod and feeing the chain through the loop on his duck and frog sponges, I set out to find him a proper one. Found the Tolo Fishing rod on Amazon and gave it to him for Christmas. Turned out to be one of his favourite presents. He absolutely loves it. The magnetic fish are very easy to catch and he can reel them in for added authenticity. The cute little worm on the end just adds to the charm of this toy. 100% recommend this product.
