This book shared the stories of women and girls who have experienced unspeakable horrors in their lives. It does not do so to shock you or convince you to do anything about these modern day slaves, but it quietly compels you to do so nonetheless. It is easy to look away, whether because it's just too hard or painful, or because it seems that not much can be done. This book, no, these women, tell us differently. Page after page, story after story, person after person proclaims hope and freedom, while maintaining honesty about the difficulties, pain, relapses, and disappointments inherent in the process of transforming lives. Not only that, but it offers practical ideas for the reader to find ways to help, too, through prayer, finances, volunteering, even using your own gifts and creativity to come up with a new way to help these precious women.Perhaps the biggest surprise for me, however, was finding hope, help, understanding, and solace for my own journey with sexual abuse. Ten years after the fact, I have struggled to come to grips with certain events from my past. I saw bits and pieces of myself in these stories and have been encouraged not only in my own recovery process but also in finding ways to use my gifts and experiences to help women in similar situations. I am learning not to be ashamed of my scars, as they are my story of healing through the power of God.If you or someone you know has experienced the pain and turmoil of sexual abuse, or you have a heart to learn more or do more to help those who have, I highly recommend this book. Spread the word; we CAN help put an end to sex trafficking!
