Description
Is "Political Correctness" chilling freedom of thought and speech on American campuses today? Is multicultural activism splitting the university on moral grounds, creating not a truly diverse community but balkanized tribal enclaves?Based on extensive research at six major universities, Illiberal Education is a hugely controversial, powerful polemic that examines the most important and divisive questions confronting American education today. Dinesh D'Souza argues that by charging universities with being "structurally" racist, sexist, and class-biased, a coalition of student activists, junior faculty, and compliant administrators have imposed their own political ideals on admissions, hiring, curriculum, and even personal conduct, while eschewing the goals of liberal education.

a University education. The author highlights the hypocrisy of University faculties in dealing with the forces that have morphed a liberal education into one with, for all intents and purposes, no content and no defined aim or goal except for the political agenda of the influential powers (moneyed contributors and government and financially powerful minority groups). In an indirect way, he shows how it is possible to spend four years at a university and emerge with almost no knowledge of the foundation of the world in which they live, whether it be in the West or elsewhere. Students are thoroughly cleansed of any notion of principles or timeless truth, leaving only personal whim and "relativism" as a paradigm for understanding their world and interacting with society. It would be well if everyone educated at a university since the 70s were to read this and give careful consideration to its content. And don't expect any academician to approve of the book's contents; their very existence in the currently politicized university environment depends on their buying into the concepts that have made such a shift in higher education possible. One wonders how much of a contribution of such elimination of a foundation for a world-view influences the marked increase in suicide in younger folks.
