WOW! What a powerful text, regardless of what your position in the same-sex marriage debate is! Obviously Yuan is a believer who confesses Christ and seeks to align his view of sexuality to Scripture, which makes this text powerful for seeing how a believer might thoughtfully answer questions of same-sex attraction, sexual immorality in various forms, and sexual identity. Yuan's unique perspective and testimony, accompanied by his strong understanding of the nuances of Scripture's teaching on sexuality make this text a solid resource for anyone wanting to understand the various views of the debate. And again, regardless of a reader's views on same-sex attraction, this text is an incredible devotional read for believers. It is a challenging read regarding Scripture's view on sexuality, humanity's purpose, and sanctification of a believer (which includes sexuality as well as other issues). I have never read a theological text that so solidly asks readers to consider sexuality as one of the aspects believers should submit to Christ in the process of seeking holiness. This text could be read (should be read!) by married couples, dating, and singles (regardless of sexual preferences or identities) who are seeking to understand sexuality from a Scriptural perspective. Please do not think this text speaks only about same-sex topics; its power lies in its call to enthrone Christ over all sexuality.Solidly researched, a powerful understanding of Scripture and the current debate of sexuality in our culture. Yet, the text is approachable, and one does not need a thorough understanding of the current issues in order to start here. Yuan does not drag on grinding axes or soap-boxing; the book is incredibly readable and accessible, fast-paced as well! Yuan leads the reader toward other resources in continuing learning. What's most outstanding is Yuan's compassion and challenge to compassion to his audience. He encourages introspection, carefully and kindly condemns hypocrisy, does not play fast-and-loose with what Scripture calls sin, but also does not tolerate elevating some sins above others. This is a challenging text in that aspect, although it is not a difficult read.I want my teenage children to read this text with me because it affirms Scripture, it asks tough devotional and personal questions regarding culture and sexuality, and it encourages compassion in the debate for those who differ. I think we could have such amazing questions and discussions by reading this together, and I could gain more insight on how their generation processes questions and positions on sexuality by reading this book as a guide. The reading guide in the back is equally succinct and just as hard-hitting as the text.
